When I announced this month’s Ask Me Anything on Instagram @motherhood_charm, I didn’t think you’d have this many questions for me, so THANK YOU! I am flattered, and overwhelmingly blessed to have such a great responsive community of women. Most of the questions came via comments on the original post, while some were through stories and direct messages. In any case, and without further ado, here are the responses to your questions….
What’s the hardest/easiest thing about being a mom?
The hardest part would be the uncertainty. Us moms worry too much, and for me it’s making sure they each getting their undivided attention from mommy and that neither one feels left out. And, if you really want to talk about anxiety levels… then it’s keeping an eye on all three while we are out and about. Omg! Also, when they all happen to need me at the same time!! Like, why??!!!
The easiest would be loving them. Cheesy, ha? But, that’s the first thing that came to my mind. I love hugging them, kissing them, laughing with them, cuddling, etc. that makes it the easiest part. Do you agree?
Favorite baby product after having three kiddos?
I would have to say the Dock-A-Tot. Baby A has been sleeping/lounging/playing in it since we brought her home. It’s something I wish I had with the boys. I swear, it’s the best thing ever. We constantly move it from room to room, and when in need it goes with us to grandparents, etc. Then my second would be the Evenflo basinett stroller because the basinett is life, seriously! I love this feature – it lets me change her in the stroller wherever whenever without any hassle. Also, when she falls asleep she is like in her bed! You can elevate the head portion as you like too. Best innovative thing ever! Like where was this when I had the boys!!!
What’s your best advice for new moms?
I have three things to say to new moms.
1. it is OK not to “love every minute” of motherhood
2. Live in the moment. And this is a big one, because your kids will not remember yesterday, and don’t care about tomorrow they just want you present in the moment. And,
3. DO NOT analyze your marriage or life for at least six months after having a baby. Ok, I guess I have four things to say….
4. There is no right way. There is your way. Period. I’ll just leave it at this. Are your kids’ basic needs met – food, clothing, shelter? Do they know how much you love then? Then Mama, you are doing a good enough job.
How do you take care of your hair, and what color do you use?
I only use a few products on my hair. I have three different shampoos that I use, this one for volume, this one for moisture and this one for in general good hair and switch between washes. I do use this conditioner. Then after I wash my hair, I spray my hair with the Miracle 10 product, and then blow dry. You can find these at your nearby Ulta (not sponsored).
I color my hair 2-3 times a year. Of those 2-3 times, I do a full head only once and the other two times is just partial color. I have been doing balayge lately. A to be honest, I don’t know what exact color because my hairstylist just knows what I want and she does it, I just sit and sip on my coffee – not even kidding! She is the best. By the way, if you’re local – you should check her out New Style Hair Salon in Wheaton, IL. Her name is Sladana. Anyways, I don’t like to color my hair often and actually while I was pregnant with each one of my babes I did not color my hair at all. So I would go for over a year without coloring my hair. I am actually due for haircut and color soon! I get a haircut every 3 months or so.
How do you maintain your curls?
After doing the steps above, I curl my hair using this curling wand, loose curls and use the big and sexy hair spray. This usually lasts me 3-4 days which is until next hair washing. I use dry shampoo all the time! You know, it’s my best frannn when it comes to hair 🙂 I use Batiste, strength and shine.
What’s your number one hair tip?
Don’t forget to take care of your hair. Before my hair was at a healthy stage I used to do hair masks twice a week, leaving it on for an hour or so, depending on when I was doing it. Now, I still use the mask but once every two weeks.
Do you ever experience mom brain?
Yes. All the time!!! Haha
What’s your fave coffee?
Dark Roast. I love bold coffee. At home, I make a Sumatra (Starbucks dark roast) cup and froth milk for my version of at home latte. I do the same to make iced coffee (just let it cool off) and top with ice. So random, but I make this more often than you think esp when on the go with the babes and just put it in a Starbucks cup – I don’t buy Starbucks every time we go somewhere LOL.
What’s your favorite Starbucks drink?
Latte machiatto and iced Starbucks double shot are my go to from Starbucks.
When did you start blogging?
I started blogging about a year ago – blogiversary post.
What made you start blogging?
I was passionate about motherhood and style so I needed to do something with that. I wanted to show that despite being a mom I didn’t need to lose me, that I can be a mom and do everything else I want.
And how do you balance blogging with three kids?
By staying organized. And that’s in general for everything – organization is key.
How do you find time to blog?
I only Blog when they are sleeping or if they are out and about. I give them all my attention, because I believe in being present in the moment. I usually write up my blogs in advance too, but not always. I usually work a week in advance and do final edits on the day of. Same goes with photos.
What’s your least favorite part of blogging?
Having a writer’s block. It derails my schedule.
How did you get started with style blogging?
I wanted to show other mamas that we can still be stylish while mommying. That you don’t have to give up on yourself to be a good mom. You can do both. And, by taking care of yourself first let’s you take care of your babies even better.
So, I looked for clothing collaborations and started with Pink Blush.
Also, I’ve always enjoyed putting outfits together days in advance, and being able to repeat staple pieces and this is a perfect way to do that. Ain’t nobody got the time nor money to be buying something every day (at least I don’t) so I like to play with pieces in my own closet.
How do you balance life and motherhood?
By staying organized and prioritizing. Also, not overwhelming myself with expectations and setting too many goals/tasks per day. I’ve learned to go with the flow. I don’t say, on Monday I’ll vacuum, dust, do laundry, etc. Instead, I know that on a Monday and any give day of the week I need to make breakfast for the babes, and play with them – if the day allows for everything else then we start with one thing, then the next if we get to it. If not, leave it for the next day. Nobody said it had to be done in one day.
Also, I’ve made it a point to have a weekly coffee date with my bff and we’ve stuck by that for years now. However, it may not always be on the same day but that doesn’t matter – it’s the fact that we can get together and catch up over coffee. We need adult interaction.
What’s the hardest part of your day?
Probably bed time. Nobody wants to go to bed… they’d stay up ’till midnight if I’d let them.
Thank you so much for your support, from the bottom of my heart.
xoxo,
Vesna
