Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley
You probably saw our stories, but last week we went to a smaller than usual farm – Volkening Heritage Farm located at Spring Valley in Schaumburg. We visit this farm at least once every Fall, if not more.
There is just something about Fall that makes me crave country, makes me want to visit all the farms around us and that’s what we will be doing. We started with this one, an 1880s German like farm. People used to live here, when this city Schaumburg was a rural German farm community – this is what it looked like.
Farm Community
Today, this is more of an attraction for families to visit and see the traditions. You can even participate in the seasonal chores. The boys helped the farmer feed the cows. They loved the experience. They also loved chasing chickens all over the farm.
There are also picnic tables and we had our lunch there. Mateja, my second-born was so surprised to see all the chickens being so friendly and not afraid.
Grateful, Thankful, Blessed
Unrelated to being at the farm, but have to add how grateful I am to be able to spend all this time with them, watching them grow every step of the way. Last year, this time I was working full time at an office, and loved it but I love this way more. This is me, this is what I see myself as most – a mother to my three babes. Anyways, just wanted to share that.
If you’re ever in the area, you should definitely stop by and visit this historic farm. It is really nice when you can let your little ones run around free and be wild without worrying much.
You may also enjoy our last year’s adventure through the woods, or one of our fave pumpkin patch farms.
