Our first real Christmas tree
Happy Monday, loves! We had a weekend full of Christmas festivities, family time and loved seeing all the Christmas lights. We are ready for this new week with some more festivities including Vasilije’s preschool Holiday show. I am super excited to see him sing and perform at the stage.
But, a few weeks ago we went to get our first real Christmas tree. It’s not my first one, but for the boys’s and lady it’s the first one. Back home, in my motherland we used to cut our own Christmas tree every year.
Childhood memories…
One of my most memorable childhood moments has always been getting the Christmas tree. We never had an artificial tree back home in Bosnia. My dad would always cut a fresh tree from practically our backyard and bring it in the house for my mom and I to decorate.
A fun fact about us…
We celebrate Christmas on January 7th (orthodox) so we used to always decorate on New Years Eve or a few days before. But, because I love Christmas so much having the tree and decorations for just one week is not enough for me, so we decorate beginning of December now.
Making it a tradition
I wanted to do the same with Vasilije, Mateja and Anastasija as they are older now. About a week or so ago we went to a local tree farm and picked our tree, it was already cut though. But nonetheless the boys got to pick their very own real tree. They were so surprised at how sticky it was and how it smelled, as Mateja said.
Taking the pine tree Home
I am such a festive and all about Christmas and Holidays person, so things like this make me super happy. I loved seeing my boys run around all the trees and then pick their very own. Then they watched the guy that works there trim the tree for us and wrap it so we can take it home.
Making it into a Christmas tree
We immediately put the tree in a stand and added water, and now every day the boys add a little bit of water to keep the tree fresh. We have fresh pine all over the house. I just love the smell. The boys loved decorating the tree, and well so did Anastasija. She only kept taking things off of the tree haha! We kept their tree simple with just adding the lights.
Each year we add a Christmas book to our collection and this year I was excited to add Pick A Pine Tree by Patricia Toht. It was fun to read this book before heading out to get our tree as the book tells a story of picking a pine tree and making it into a Christmas tree.
So tell me, are you doing a real or fake tree this year? Or both?
‘Tis the season!
